Counseling Services with Conor Mitchell
Buckminster Fuller defined tensegrity as the balance found in systems under tension. When we are relatively resourced, this tension can feel propulsive and useful. When we are overwhelmed or disoriented, it can feel suffocating, oppressive, and unsafe. To move through this suffering, therapy is a tool that can lead to insight, authenticity, and healing in the form of integration.
About
My name is Conor Mitchell. I am an artist and musician, a father and co-parent, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I believe in the power of therapy, mindfulness, mentorship, and ritual to change lives (they’ve certainly changed mine).I am a two-time alumnus of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Religion/English and a Specialist in Education/Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. I began my clinical experience in a residential addiction treatment center where I found deep satisfaction in service work and participating in the recovery efforts of inpatient and outpatient clients.I have previously worked in various careers including art, writing, music, and plenty of desk jobs. I lived in Southeast Asia for several years studying meditation and contributing to sustainable architecture, farming, and cultural preservation efforts. While joy in life is a birthright, it often lies dormant in the face of obstacles. I can help you encounter these obstacles to discover growth, meaning, and a more accurate sense of self.I work with a broad spectrum of humans who may feel stuck or victimized in a variety of ways. I am trauma and addiction informed and affirming of all belief systems and identities. My goal is to tune into your inherent resilience, resourcefulness, and capacity for healing to turn wounds into gifts.
Therapeutic approach
&
modalities
My approach to therapy is person-centered, which simply means we will co-create as a team in the room together. I tend to focus on how you discover meaning in your life, and what may be impeding that discovery. (In training they call this an "existential approach" although technically I'm more of an essentialist!) I strongly believe my presence is required in the room, and so is yours as a client. My therapeutic lens is built upon the work of Carl Jung and James Hillman, who themselves drew from alchemy, mythology, the arts, and cultures/traditions that have had many generations to distill their wisdom.I am EMDRIA certified in EMDR for trauma work. I utilize trauma-informed mindfulness techniques and somatic exercises, as well.Parts work (Internal Family Systems), bibliotherapy, and Rogerian talk therapy are also options that are available.I look forward to discovering your innate genius and witnessing your growth. Together, we can discover a therapeutic path forward that allows you to work through (as opposed to bypassing) what you find troubling, hurtful, or no longer useful.
